See "Compare Attic Fans" page for a comparison of the different whole house fans on the market.
Our fans are more expensive than the big box store fans because they are (1) better engineered, (2) run much more quietly, (3) last much longer (30 years or more is not exceptional), (4) don't quickly deteriorate and (5) increase home equity value, and (6) are easily repairable should they ever require service.
Our fans are cheaper than many of the other fans sold on the internet, yet they (1) usually move much more air at a slower speed (the heart & soul of a good fan, (2) are repairable with easy to obtain parts locally (not a minor consideration if you ever need service), (3) run much more quietly compared to the amount of air moved and (4) have been proven to easily last over 40 years & continue to provide excellent and quiet service.

The above pricing represents a reasonably accurate "ball park" estimate of the cost of a whole house fan installation.
The size of the house is the square footage (sq ft) not including the basement. We do not count even a finished basement when sizing for a whole house fan.
The amount of probable venting is based on the assumption that some ventilation has already been installed by the builder or roofer. This amount is usally found to be approximately 2 square feet of net area venting already installed.
If you have more venting already installed, we will suggest only the amount needed to achieve optimal performance.
The above amounts are our guess as to how much more additional venting may be necessary to add for the fan to work effectively. Please see our ventilation page for more detailed information.
If you are interested in running an extremely quiet fan, consider having a larger fan installed that you would be likely to run at the low speed. The low speed of the larger fan moves as much air as the next smaller fan moves at the high speed. The lower speed of the larger fan maintains the same air flow, but reduces the noise, wear and tear and electrical usage.

With our many years of experience we are often able to provide a very accurate price estimate over the phone or by return email.

What to do after the estimate: In home final estimate/possible install
For customers who are satisfied with our on-line or phone estimate, we are able to send an installation crew to the home. Arriving in the morning, the installer does a technical walkthrough of the house, attic and existing ventilation and then reports to the homeowner. This usually takes less than 1/2 hour.
The installer will describe what he has found and make his recommendations as to fan size and location as well as suggestions for additional ventilation, if any. Should the homeowner want to proceed with any or all the recommended work, the crew can usually complete the job that same day.
If the homeowner decides against doing any work, then the visit is simply a free estimate. Visits and installations beyond a 30 mile radius of our office carry a distance charge.
Out of state? Do it yourselfer?
Out of State: We can ship a fan to you for the pricing listed above plus freight. Current charge to ship one of our fan units to the lower 48 states is: $150.00
For Out of State or DIY we would be please to provide all components plus a free phone consulation, if you have questions or need advice.
Our opinion about cheap fans from the big box stores and customer purchased fans
Saving money by buying a cheap fan will likely cost you more in the long run. While cheaper than the fans we sell, they represent the worst in fan engineering. We will not install these fans.
We will not install customer purchased fans because we cannot control the quality, reliability or even the appropriateness of the components.
Internet purchased fans
Beware of many of the newly designed fans sold over the internet. Most of them claim to run much quieter than traditional whole house fans. In fact they are comparing themselves to the cheap Big Box Store fans, not to a well engineered atticfan.com fan system. The cost of these internet fans tends to be very high and the air movement very low. In addition, the unique engineering of these fans means that service and parts may well become an issue several years from now. Any breakdown of the fan might mean that it there are no parts available and it needs to be discarded and completely replaced. See our Compare Fans (Chart) or Compare Fans (Text) for more information.
A fan from atticfan.com will last over 30 years and because it is made from commonly available components, any parts that might fail can be easily replaced for many years to come.
EXTRA CHARGES
There is an extra charge for the following:
Older homes (pre-1978, see below)
Vertical installation or Installation on a slope
Building a new attic entry
Scaffold installations or installations extending over stairwells.
Moving a light or smoke detector, etc.
Installations over 30 miles from our offices in Denver.
OLDER HOMES (PRE 1978)
A new EPA regulation, effective 2011, requires companies that work in homes built before 1978 be certified in safe lead renovation procedures.
Atticfan.com has completed the special training required and is certified by the EPA to work on homes built before 1978.
In order to comply with these regulations, certain procedures must be followed by certified contractors in order to limit the possibility of lead contamination when cutting into the walls or ceilings of these homes.
The extra costs of these procedures will add a charge of $150.00 for the installation of a whole house fan in houses built before 1978.
OLDER HOMES (PRE 1950)
Homes built before or around 1950, typically have plaster or plaster/wallboard ceilings and walls. Due to the use of plaster, these homes present a more difficult installation and cleanup. According there is an additional $100 charge when working in such a house. This is in addition to the lead safe procedure charge.
